how do you actually make underwear last longer because mine always seems to degrade faster than it should

been trying to reduce how often i replace basics and underwear specifically seems to degrade faster than it should even from brands that are supposedly quality. the elastic goes, the fabric pills, or the shape changes after a relatively small number of washes

wondering whether this is about washing method, fabric type, or whether the brands i have been buying are just not as good as claimed. also curious whether there are brands where the quality actually holds up through a year or more of regular use
