Watching the eclipse with selfie mode?

I've seen many conflicting comments about using the selfie mode to view the eclipse tomorrow, many are saying it will destroy my phone camera but I'm just wondering is this true? I've taken many photos of the sun over the years and my camera seems fine? Does anyone know if this is true? Or is the damage really bad to my phone?
