I Think I Chose the Wrong Career

Workplace Challenges and Conflicts

So I graduated with a welding diploma four years ago. I've been working as a TIG welder for three years now. I make $22/hr.

To put that in perspective, my partner makes $20 as a line cook and makes 200-300 in tips every other week.

Beyond the pay I feel like I'm stupid. I've improved but the ship is dead and sometimes I get things I have done before but it was six plus months ago when I learned it and I feel like I have to relearn it because any and all information was left in the dust.

People kind of treat me differently. Like I am incapable and they assume. For three years I've been showing up, trying to take initiative, ask questions, keep a neutral attitude, not overly positive just "ok"

I don't have an issue with the work it's just the people and mentality.

If I try it's not good enough, if I fail at something I fulfill their expectations.

I see other people mess something up and they get another shot at it.

When it happens to me, I'm never asked again.

It makes me insane.

I also drive two people to work and it also drives me insane. To one guy I'm his therapist. We are not friends. We don't hang out outside of work but during drives apparently I get to hear about baby mama drama.

I don't have kids.

The other guy is racist and such a bummer. I just want them to figure their life out and get the fuck out of my car.

The place I'm in is small and there aren't a lot of job opportunities and I do plan on moving but, I'm completely intimidated to work somewhere else. I have a lot of worries about it.

I have no idea if I picked the wrong career or if I just need a change of pace.
