A defence of Brad P
Hello sober friends,
I felt a bit like saying something about the recent posts on this subject as I was concerned while reading around the recent Interview.
Firstly, I found this group to be very supportive of people who have decided to stop drinking, are considering it, and also those who have relapsed. The comments I saw today kinda weren't in this spirit.
Most people have a Rock bottom that they are ashamed of, having it publicised it pretty hard going.
When parents disagree on the upbringing of their children it can be a daily emotional struggle. Very often the father steps back and loses the relationship with the children. That's a big knock down.
Looked like there were other issues including a lost mother. Also hard going.
Not saying that he's behaved well in the past or made a good decision. He seems to acknowledged the first, but not the second which is disappointing.
This guy is a stranger, like we all are - mostly anonymous. I'd have liked it if people had read this as a normal person who had some possibly awful problems and behaviour, like a lot of us here, and a bit more kindness had been extended in the commentary. Or ar least it had been kept to a commentary on drinking rather than personal attacks.
I'd like to think moderation works for some people, believe it mostly doesn't for those who have identified a problem. The only critisism I have following the interview is that there was no one liner (that I saw) about the dangers of moderation and where to go with an AUD.
