Amg GTS, M8, R8, cayman gts 4.0, vantage, or other impractical coupes?
Hey all. In the market for a fun and impractical car at around the 70-75k usd mark and wanted to get some advice. IF YOU HAVE A CAR IN MIND THAT YOU THINK HASNT CROSSED MINE, TELL ME! I want to consider as many options as possible. For context, currently driving a macan gts but have started to commute to work via metro so not needing to really rely on a daily besides the 5 min drive to and from the metro so I’ve been itching for a dumb impractical car. I’m planning on getting married in two years, moving to nyc for 3-5 years, then leaving and settling down and having kids, so I won’t really have the chance to consider an impractical main car for the next 15 years at the least. The primary concern is fun, automatic, sub 40k miles, reliability and availability for parts. Practicality has effectively 0 concern, live with family and we have an old rav 4 as a beater which would serve all my non-coupe needs. My father drove an rx7 before he had kids and has tons of stories attached to that car, so a secondary “want” is to have a car that has the potential of being a future classic and thatll give me tons of stories to share with my kids. It’d be a shame to have three generations of gear heads end with me, so having those memories to share is important. There are a variety of sport sedans that have crossed my mind but I’ll have the chance to consider them later down the line hopefully. Cayman 4.0 in my mind is the easiest choice as it’s likely the “funnest” to drive but it seems impossible within my budget, at least for a nicer example. Past cars that were considered but dropped were Viper, too much of a death machine, c5 z06, only comes in stick, gt500, not “special” enough (I know, I’m unfortunately that person), lotus emira, non-mechanical parts availability, lc500, wifey to be hates it :(
