Do I need an ASL export certificate to fly with my cat from Italy back to the U.S.?
Hi everyone! I’m hoping someone who has recently traveled from Italy to the U.S. with a cat can help clarify this for me.
I’m a U.S. citizen and my cat is originally from the U.S. I moved to Italy for school and brought him with me, and we are now flying (in-cabin) back to the U.S. from Rome.
My cat has an EU Pet Passport, valid rabies vaccination, microchip, and a health certificate from an Italian veterinarian. My Italian vet told me that I do not need an ASL export certificate to return my cat to the U.S. However, I’m finding a lot of conflicting information online, including information saying that pets leaving Italy for the U.S. need an export certificate issued by the local ASL veterinary office.
Has anyone recently flown from Italy to the U.S. with a cat and can confirm whether the ASL export certificate was required? Did the airline or anyone at the airport actually ask to see it? Thank you so much for any help!
