One of the things I’m learning very quickly about creating with A.I. is that the environment we’re working in today probably won’t remain this open forever.

Some people might compare this moment to Napster. Napster exploded because technology suddenly allowed ordinary people to access and share music in a way the established industry had never really planned for. It ran straight into copyright law, lawsuits and corporate resistance, and the original service was eventually shut down. But the behaviour it revealed never disappeared.

People had already discovered that they wanted music \*\*instantly, digitally and on demand\*\*.

The industry could fight the technology, but it couldn’t make people forget the convenience.

So eventually the business model changed. Digital music became legitimate, licensed and commercialised. Download stores appeared, then subscription streaming became normal. Napster itself wasn’t literally the blueprint for every streaming service that followed, but it helped expose the enormous consumer demand that ultimately forced the music industry to rethink how music was distributed.

I think we may be watching a similar transition with A.I.

Right now the tools are unusually open. Creators can experiment cheaply, generate huge numbers of possibilities, combine several different A.I. systems into one workflow and create things that previously would have required studios, designers, musicians, editors, researchers and significant capital.

That freedom makes the old gatekeepers uncomfortable because it changes who gets to produce.

So naturally the next stage is beginning to look familiar: licensing agreements, watermarks, tighter usage rules, export limits, higher prices and systems designed to make the technology fit inside an existing commercial structure.

That doesn’t necessarily mean A.I. creation disappears.

Napster didn’t kill digital music.

It helped prove that \*\*digital music was inevitable\*\*.

The question is whether A.I. follows the same pattern: first the uncontrolled explosion, then the lawsuits and restrictions, then eventually a mature industry where the technology is accepted but much more heavily monetised and controlled.

That is one reason I’m glad I’ve spent this early period creating aggressively.

When experimentation is cheap, you experiment.

When the factory is running, you manufacture.

When somebody eventually starts charging for every box that leaves the factory, you’d better already have some inventory.

And that is increasingly how I see the work I’ve been doing.

\*\*The creation phase gave me the inventory.

The next phase is learning what to do with it.\*\*

A.I. music platforms are beginning to introduce tighter limits around things like downloads, exporting, watermarking and other parts of the production process. That makes me very glad I’ve spent so much time over the past year doing exactly what I’ve been doing: \*\*creating a massive amount of original material while the tools still allow me to experiment at scale.\*\*

Because that scale matters.

When you manufacture something creatively with A.I., you don’t necessarily make \*one song\*. You might create ten, twenty or fifty possibilities to find the one performance that actually works. You change the lyrics. Change the instrumentation. Change the vocal approach. Retiming one section can change the entire song. Sometimes the twenty-third attempt is the one worth keeping.

So putting a limit on downloads or charging creators every time they need to preserve another result changes the economics very quickly. Whether you call the goal control, scarcity or simply a new business model, the practical result is the same: \*\*A.I. creation becomes more expensive and the amount independent creators can produce gets restricted.\*\*

That’s why I’ve been treating what I’m doing almost like manufacturing.

I use multiple A.I. systems together. One helps me research. Another helps me write and restructure. Another creates music. Others help with pictures, video, editing, organization and presentation. I’m the person directing the process, deciding what belongs, throwing away what doesn’t, rewriting it and building the finished property.

And increasingly, I think that workflow matters more than any individual A.I.

Create the ideas.

Write the material.

Generate the possibilities.

Choose the masters.

Organize everything.

Package it.

Publish it.

Then figure out how to make the property earn something.

I’ve spent a long time concentrating on the creation side. Now I’m getting closer to the point where I can stop constantly making more and start asking the harder question:

\*\*How do I make money from the enormous amount of original property I’ve already created?\*\*

And this is happening while the wider entertainment industry is trying to work out how much control it wants over A.I.—how accessible it should be, how expensive it should become, how much should be watermarked and how much ordinary people should be able to produce.

Meanwhile, ordinary people are already producing.

Spend any amount of time on YouTube and you can usually hear it. The same A.I. voices turn up repeatedly. There are strange pronunciations and speech mistakes that a human narrator probably wouldn’t make. Sometimes the production is rough around the edges.

But a surprising amount of it is also \*\*really good\*\*.

I’m finding beautiful stories. Positive stories. History, philosophy, encouragement, imagination and music made by people who previously might never have had the money, equipment, studio, contacts or industry permission required to make any of it.

And I think that part of the A.I. discussion gets buried.

For decades we've been told that fear, outrage, humiliation and conflict are what get attention. The circus keeps shouting \*\*“go woke, go broke,”\*\* telling us who we're supposed to hate this week and why everything is falling apart.

Meanwhile, another group of creators is quietly discovering something else:

\*\*People also want beauty.

People want hope.

People want stories.

People want music that makes them feel better instead of worse.

People want to be inspired to become something better.\*\*

A.I. is empowering people to make those things.

That's the part of this revolution I find exciting.

The tools will change. The limits will change. The prices will change. Some doors will close and others will open. But there is already an enormous community of people learning how to use multiple A.I. systems together to make original work that could never have existed otherwise.

\*\*We're here.\*\*

Care to listen?

And maybe that is the next stage of the experiment.

I’ve spent a long time asking, \*\*“What can I make?”\*\* Now the question becomes, \*\*“What can I build from everything I’ve already made?”\*\*

That is a completely different mindset. A song stops being something I generated yesterday and becomes part of a catalogue. A book told through music becomes a property. Artwork becomes promotional material. Characters become recognizable assets. A radio station becomes somewhere all of those things can live together. Instead of constantly feeding another prompt into another machine, the job starts becoming organization, packaging, marketing, licensing and distribution.

That is where I think a lot of A.I. creators are eventually going to end up.

The early stage of A.I. encouraged experimentation because experimentation was cheap. Generate another one. Try another voice. Rewrite the chorus. Make another picture. Change the camera angle. Throw away twenty attempts and keep number twenty-one. That freedom produced an incredible amount of learning because failure barely cost anything except time.

When companies begin putting toll booths around every part of that process, creators will adapt.

We always do.

Maybe instead of generating fifty random songs, we write twenty songs first and generate them together. Maybe instead of constantly switching between writing, music, artwork and video, we manufacture in stages. Write everything. Then generate everything. Then select everything. Then organize everything. Then publish everything.

That is actually how manufacturing works.

You don’t stop halfway through building a thousand chairs because somebody suddenly feels like painting one.

You cut the timber.

Then you assemble.

Then you sand.

Then you paint.

Then you package.

A.I. creation is beginning to teach me the same lesson.

I’ve probably wasted an enormous amount of time jumping between jobs because these tools make it so tempting. Write a song, generate it, make a picture, animate the picture, make a post, change the song, make another picture...

It works, but it doesn’t scale.

So now I’m moving toward \*\*patterns\*\*.

I can create a complete story structure first. Then write the songs in order. Then produce them. Then number and organize the finished masters so the filenames themselves tell me exactly how the work should be played. Then create the artwork. Then create the videos. Then publish and promote the finished property.

That means A.I. becomes less like a toy and more like a \*\*production line controlled by one creative director\*\*.

And I think that distinction is going to become increasingly important.

The people who benefit most from A.I. probably won’t always be the people who know how to write the cleverest prompt. They’ll be the people who know how to build a repeatable system around it.

Because individual tools will disappear.

Prices will change.

Models will change.

Restrictions will arrive.

Companies will merge.

One day a feature is unlimited and the next day somebody decides you get twenty.

But a workflow can survive all of that.

Replace one machine with another and keep the production line moving.

That is also why I’m increasingly interested in \*\*ownership of the finished property rather than loyalty to the tool that helped create it\*\*.

I don’t particularly care which hammer built the house.

I care about the house.

And right now I have a lot of houses.

Entire books retold through original music. Hundreds of songs. Artwork. Concepts. Videos. Civic ideas. Educational projects. A radio station capable of broadcasting all of it.

At some point the smartest thing I can do is stop asking A.I. to help me make \*\*more stuff\*\* and start asking it to help me catalogue, organize, market and monetize the enormous amount of stuff I already have.

Because creation was never supposed to be the finish line.

Creation creates the inventory.

\*\*What you do with the inventory is the business.\*\*

And perhaps that is the part of the A.I. revolution we haven’t really reached yet.

Millions of ordinary people are suddenly becoming tiny studios, publishers, broadcasters, designers and production companies.

Some of them are making junk.

So did every generation before them.

Some of them are making extraordinary things.

And somewhere in that enormous pile of experimentation are going to be completely new businesses, formats and kinds of entertainment that the established industry never would have funded because nobody could have afforded to discover whether they worked.

That is what inexpensive experimentation does.

It finds things.

So when somebody tells me A.I. creation needs to become harder, scarcer or more expensive, I understand why established industries may want that.

I’m just not convinced the rest of us benefit from it.

Because somewhere tonight somebody with almost no money is writing the first song they ever thought they could make.

Somebody else is illustrating the story they’ve carried around for twenty years.

Someone is making a documentary nobody would finance.

Someone is giving an old public-domain book a completely new life.

And somebody who was always told, \*\*“You need a studio, you need investors, you need a publisher, you need permission”\*\* is discovering that maybe they don’t.

That is a very powerful thing to give people.

And once people discover they can create, getting them to forget it may prove considerably harder.

\*\*We’re here. We’re learning. We’re building.\*\*

And increasingly, we’re learning how to manufacture imagination.
