I love you - keep it going & never stop

Family Life

This is something I do due to my wifes dad & will do forever.

My wife, 27, has always been an unapologetic daddys girl

And honestly, can't blame her, 10/10 dad, 11/10 father-in-law, love that man

And something he does & has done since the day she was born

He's been telling her that he loves her & hug her every single night before either of them go to bed. And if either of them weren't home, he'd make sure to text her or call her & send her a silly selfie

When we moved in together, it didn't stop. Every single night, he tells her that he loves her & sends her some goofy, silly & funny selfie of him, her mom, the both of them, of anything really that just simply isn't "a meme I found on the internet"

Either via text or sometimes via a random call.

Sometimes in a sarcastic way, sometimes with an inside joke, sometimes with a bit, soometimes sincere, sometimes in a way he knows he'll push her puttons to lit her fuse, sometimes a simple "i love you" and wishing her a good night

Either way, he never ever skips a single day. And it makes her smile \*every\* time.

Even after disagreements or if she messed something up and got in trouble with him and her mom, he \*never\* made her go to bed without hugging her and telling her that he loves her

He made it clear, that she doesn't need to respond to every message or feel pressured to write him everyday, he's totaly fine if she doesn't reply to every message (she still does every time)

It's something small, yet, it is such dedicated commitment, that it's a constant in her life

Of course, that alone won't make a great dad. He has a crapton of qualities.

He's the funniest guy I know, he's always been encouraging her to try out things that catched her intrest, he's been supportive of her, studied with her for exams no matter how beat he was, he's been there for her through her lows & hyped her up for her highs

They have shared hobbies, are both competitive skullheads (alongside being petty losers & smug winners. Tbf, so am I, so you can imagine that whenever we do stuff together, someone's a smug ass with a shit eating grin, while the other two are sulking like pissed 6 year olds)

Even if she had/has hobbies he didn't vibe with or has no knowledge in, he always makes sure to get into it enough on a surface level to get the general gist of things, etc. Etc. Etc.

The list'd go on forever

(although, he frequently expresses his failure in fatherhood because he didn't spark the same passion he has for kickboxing as well as star wars)

But this specific ritual I see every night when he calls or she looks at her phone and smiles, I instantly know what message she got

Sure, those big moments matter, but so do those little, consistent reminders that you'll always love them.

I'm sure many of you know, but it's never bad to have a reminderr:

Even if your kids grow up & move out, don't forget to keep telling them you love them, even if it's something as simple as a little text before you go to bed

There are lots of things people tell you to do as a parent, but of course, that always misses nuance since no parent-child relationship is the same

But a simple "i love you, sleep well" is honestly something I think can be a universaly agreed upon thing to do for your child, to remind them that you're always there for them
