One answer option we almost cut from our couples quiz: "I'd do it just because you want to"

I co-founded Privé Game, a couples quiz where each person answers questions about intimacy on their own, and only the overlaps get shown. Early on we argued about whether to keep a fourth answer that isn't a yes and isn't a no: "I'd do this because it matters to you, not because I'm dying to."

The case for cutting it was that it muddies the data. Is that a yes? A no? The case for keeping it won, and I'm glad, because that answer turns out to describe a huge chunk of real intimacy.

Plenty of couples don't split cleanly into "both love it" and "one's a hard no." There's this whole middle where one person is genuinely willing, out of care, not obligation. If your only options are yes and no, that willingness reads as a no and never gets explored. With the softer option on the table, couples find things one of them would happily do simply because the other lights up about it. Nobody resents that. It's one of the warmer things you can learn about a partner.

The lesson I took: couples get stuck less often on flat refusals than on a scale too blunt to hold a soft yes. When the only settings are yes and no, "for you, sure" has nowhere to go but the no column, and you both lose something you'd have actually enjoyed.

What's something you'd happily do for a partner just because they're into it, even if it wasn't your idea?
