Do I have a high enough salary to starting maxing out 401k?
I’m 24 years old and recently got promoted at work. My new base salary is $90,000 a year. Based on the math, I could swing maxing out my 401k as it would put my net income a little higher than when I started this job. The question is: is it worth it? I currently am aggressively paying down my car loan and should be close to done by early next year. Due to this, I wouldn’t start maxing 401k until January 2027. No other debt, no mortgage yet, but have saved enough for downpayment and closing costs. I already max out my Roth IRA, so this seems like the next step? I don’t have a ton in my brokerage account, but I see that as extra.
