M18 Quik-Lok body is only working when rotated to one side

Hey y'all, I just picked up a new M18 Quik-lok String Trimmer from Home Depot, and I'm having issues with it out of the box like it only works when the whole body is rotated about 90° to the right, as in the trigger is facing left instead of down. They articulate just fine, but I won't have any activation. If I start it at the angle and rotate it back to normal orientation, it cuts out immediately just about every time. I'm really disappointed because I've heard this trimmer is the one to get, and I've been a long time user at my job as a heavy duty diesel tech with their impacts and such. Any idea where to start with this? Part number is 3016-20.
