2022 VC Turbo Rogue Catastrophic Failure - Nissan buyback?
I bought a 2022 Rogue SV back in 2023, with 13k miles on it. It currently has 60k miles on it. Sadly, I have brought it in a number of times to have recall work done on it as it has been running funny the last couple of years. I had been having issues where I was thrown into limp mode and needed it towed to the dealership, the OEM MAF sensor throwing codes constantly even after being replaced, the PCV valve has failed 4 times total, and I have brought it in for engine revving out while idling and transmission issues.
Back on July 5th, I was heading to work and had just gotten on the highway. I look behind me and I was billowing smoke and had a significant loss of power. Usually that tells me there's ring failure or loss of compression if the heads lifted and blew a headgasket. I had it towed to the dealer on Nissan's dime, and it wasn't just the headgasket. My oil had the forbidden chocolate shake, the coolant was the forbidden marshmellow fluff, my bearings were chewed all the way through, my heads lifted and blew the headgasket, and everything oil and coolant touches now needs to be replaced. Everything: turbo, oil pump, entire long block, water pump, all of the hoses, oil pan, every reservoir... I recently put a long block and replaced all of that in my show car, which is JDM, and the cost of parts was astounding as I did the work myself.
I'm assuming this long block with additionals is going to cost more than the car is worth between parts and labor. Is there a threshhold where Nissan is just going to buyback the vehicle? When I called for a status on the recall, the dealer said there is currently 400 people ahead of me and they did 4 recalls that week alone for the same thing... and those people were waiting since March for their cars to be done. They said the minimum will be end of September, but they can't get the blocks out fast enough, so it's a very loose timeline with the likelyhood of being much longer, probably November or December the manager said. I really need the SUV as I'm currently in a Sentra, so it makes home projects/renovations difficult trying to stuff materials in the back and in the middle of finishing an area of the basement and putting a new bathroom in on the first floor.
Anyone successful with a buyback or getting their car back within a reasonable amount of time? Nearly 6 months seems excessive for a recall for parts.
