Can I actually work as a veterinarian in Czech Republic if I speak zero Czech?

QUESTION?

Hi everyone,

I’m a veterinarian who has recently completed registration with the Czech Veterinary Chamber and am now legally able to practise in the Czech Republic.

The problem is that I currently speak English, but not Czech.

I’m wondering how realistic it would be to find a veterinary position where I could initially work in English while learning Czech on the job.

I know that in some countries, particularly in Scandinavia, there are veterinary shortages and some clinics are willing to hire foreign veterinarians who don't speak the local language, while helping them learn the language or providing translation assistance at the beginning.

I’m wondering if anything similar happens in the Czech Republic.

I understand that Czech is normally expected in veterinary practice, especially when communicating with Czech-speaking clients. But is there actually a market for English-speaking vets who are willing to learn Czech while working?

I’d especially appreciate answers from Czech veterinarians, clinic owners, foreign vets, or anyone working in the veterinary field.

Is this realistically possible, or would most clinics require Czech from day one?

Any honest experiences or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
