Should I decide between the job that pays more money or the job that I would rather have with a better title?

Advice

I'm sitting on a decision right now and I'm having a hard time being objective about it.

I'm a veteran, and I started late. Graduated college on the GI Bill in 2022. With a business degree. Have been doing HR and recruiting since.

I know these dollar amounts don't really seem a lot so just kind of bear with me.

I just started a new job at a well thought of company making $79,000 a year. It's in a very new discipline that I have ever worked before and I'm finding the work to be pretty difficult with a steep learning curve, but I'm probably going to get there in the end. Contracts administrator.

On the other hand, there is a veteran non-profit that reached out to me that I wanted to work for before. They know me, they want to hire me by name for a manager position. However the pay is abysmal. 49,000 a year. Business development manager.

I have a kid due in October. My wife makes enough money for the both of us but that's sort of like putting all your eggs in one basket. I also have a two and a half year old. At minimum, I need to make enough money a month to pay for daycare which is about $1,500 a month. I also only get 3 hours a night with my kid with my current schedule. I won't have paternity leave come October.

Job A requires that I'm at the office for 9 and a half hours a day, plus a 30-minute commute on either end of the day. Learning a new skill is hard and part of me is frustrated. The manager is a micromanager who even works on the weekends. But the company is big, well-known, and known for people staying for the Long haul for the money.

One of the guys on this team has been the longest runner on this team, for two and a half years, and every time he tries to quit they throw more money at him.

Job B has one day a week that's mandatory in office. All other days I just have to report on Salesforce and have freedom to work from home or at the office. Every Friday is a half day.

One job means learning something new but hating it the entire time and earning more money. The other job means doing when I'm already good at, getting a better title for it, but making so little that I would probably do some moonlighting is a headhunter to compensate.

I know which one I want. And that seems selfish. And because I can't see past myself, I can't decide. What do you think?
