Day 3 and oh my actual god.
22mnth old boy - we’ve been attempting the Oh Crap method.
Leading up to us starting he’d been showing massive interest in the potty at nursery. He’d also already started grabbing his nappy and telling us when he was about to “poo”. He’d also done a couple of pees in the potty we had bought but not actively started training.
Day 1:
6 pees on the floor with us catching some drops in the potty
He was aware each time he had pee’d and helped us clean it up
2 full potty wee’s, one where he started peeing on the floor then stopped himself and then finished in the potty when we put him on it
1 poop on the potty, we put him on it mid poo but he’d also told us just before that he was going to poo
The poo really freaked him out so he got quite upset but we did what the book said and I just hugged him through it and said it was ok etc after he was super interested in taking it to the toilet and flushing it
Day 2:
5 pees on the floor, 1 sitting in his booster having dinner
He was aware before, during and after and again helped us clean up. Started saying “pee”.
Absolutely refusing to sit on the potty at all - I think due to poop-gate the day before
We scaled it back and stopped trying to rush him to the potty each time, just started casually saying “you’re doing a pee, pee goes in the potty”
Once we got his nappy on for bedtime he grabbed his nappy and said “poo” then started pooing but got worried (again I think cos of poop-gate) so stopped. We let him carry on playing and then he did eventually poop and again said “poo” when he’d finished.
Day 3:
So far - a lot of dribbling, being aware just before and during. Saying “pee” and pointing at it then wanting to clean it up.
He’s been bringing the potty into the bathroom with him when we go to the toilet but not sitting on it
Anytime he’s alerting he has to pee he gets a bit worried
1 full pee on the floor right next to the potty and he was pointing to the floor going “pee” in a worried voice the whole time then 1 small pee on a puppy pad on the sofa soon after again worriedly saying “pee”
I keep just calmly saying “you’re doing a pee, pee goes in the potty” but there’s just no interest to sit on the potty
I feel like the progress is huge - he’s doing so well but that maybe we broke him on day 1 rushing him to the potty?? And freaked him out and now he won’t sit on it at all….
Trying to not feel defeated - not with him, I’m really proud of him… but with myself and our approach.
Yesterday we tried books and toys and singing and tv all the suggestions to encourage him to sit - but he was like nah thanks I’m good, that thing is evil. But then today he’s been carrying it to the bathroom and looking at it and cleaning it - so I feel like the connection is definitely there but just not wanting to sit.
Sorry for how long this is - any tips??
