We built the first open frequency list of spoken Georgian

Data | მონაცემები

Every Georgian frequency list I could find is built from written text: news reporting, encyclopedic prose, official documents. That is the Georgian that exists in bulk, so that is the Georgian that gets counted. Then it gets handed to learners as though it described the language.

We spent a few months building the other half of the picture. Two registers that sit close to speech and exist at volume: 68 films and TV episodes of subtitle dialogue (268,785 tokens) and 184,209 forum posts (5,454,689 tokens). Lemmatised, part-of-speech tagged, ranked by the mean of each register's Zipf value. 10,000 lemmas, CC BY 4.0, free download.

Happy to answer anything about the method. The lemmatisation was the hard part, inversion verbs especially (მინდა, მაქვს, მესმის, მეშინია have no masdar in ordinary use, so they are cited by first-person singular present, the way dictionaries do it).
