I’m starting a finance internship soon and I’m considering buying a MacBook Air 15 m5

Open | Mac

I already have a Windows gaming laptop at home, so this MacBook would mainly be for portability, working outside my room, running my online business, and doing coding projects.

I’ve read that VM + Windows 11 can solve most of the Excel compatibility issues on Apple Silicon Macs. For those who work in finance:

How effective is VM in real world use?

Can it handle advanced Excel work, VBA macros, Power Query, Power Pivot, and finance related add-ins without major issues?

Have you encountered any situations where VM wasn’t enough and you needed a native Windows machine?

One thing I’m struggling with is that I already own a powerful Windows gaming laptop, but it’s heavy, has poor battery life, and isn’t something I enjoy carrying around. On the other hand, I feel like I’d be more productive with a MacBook because of the portability, battery life, and overall ecosystem, even if part of that is just a psychological effect.
