The unexpected benefit of addressing pet dander in the living room
I've always considered the living room one of the most important areas to watch in a home with pets. It's usually where people spend a lot of time, and it's often where pets spend even more.
What surprised me over the years was how improving pet-dander control there could make the entire house feel cleaner.
The reason isn't complicated. Dander can settle into sofas, rugs, blankets, curtains, and other soft surfaces, then get stirred back into the air whenever people sit down, walk around, or move furniture.
I usually suggest starting with the places the pet actually uses rather than trying to clean every surface equally. Vacuum upholstery and rugs regularly, wash pet blankets, and don't forget the space underneath furniture. Good filtration can help with airborne particles, too.
Another simple improvement is keeping pet bedding in one manageable area rather than allowing it to spread throughout the house.
The biggest lesson I've learned is that controlling the source often works better than constantly trying to clean up what has already traveled around the home.
