AIO - my mother got mad at me for leaving the house at night without telling her

I [20M] told my mother I wanted to go for a walk by myself at night so at about because I wanted to walk in the dark. She acted as if I had just suggested the most absurd thing ever and basically said I think you’re insane but okay. Whereas my dad said I can do whatever I want.

We dropped the subject and fast forward to later my parents were both in bed and it was about 12am at this point and I was still planning to go for a walk so I left the house and was gone for maybe 45 mins. I came back and didn’t wake them up or anything and it was fine and I actually enjoyed it.

Then today, I was telling my mother about it and to my surprise she was pissed about it and I got a lecture. First of all I was told that it was dangerous for me to go out without either of my parents being aware because if something happened they wouldn’t have known and they wouldn’t have known where I was . Even though I told her where I was going to walk in the day..

And then I was told off for not locking our door while I was out. Even though we have cameras and we live in a safe neighbourhood. I was basically lectured about all the reasons why it’s a bad idea and she said in the future I can’t go out while they are both asleep.

I never sneak out to go to anything and I’m not a rebellious child so I don’t see what the issue was. Leaving the house to walk isn’t a crime but yet I was treated like it was
