[BC] Should I tell my employer I’m pregnant to protect my job?
I work for a company going through some turmoil right now (layoffs, uncertainty, new leadership, etc.) and things seem to be getting dicey.
I’m technically the newest person in my department, although I’ve been here for 2 years. Some people have left and haven’t been replaced, so my team is really lean. I also know I’m among the highest paid in my department, which makes me think I’d be on the chopping block if layoffs came to my department.
I’m 14w5d pregnant and wondering if I should tell my boss now to in some way protect my job. I just want to make it to mat leave with my top-up intact.
I also have a lot of trauma around this because I was laid off from my previous role while on maternity leave.
Would disclosing my pregnancy actually offer any protection in BC, or is there no benefit to telling them early?
