For my UBC girlies: Stop giving out chances to guys who haven't earned them

I see so many incredible women working hard at school, work, and on themselves who still doubt their own worth. Meanwhile, guys armed with nothing but unearned confidence think they deserve a spot in your life simply because they dared to ask.

They count on you to second-guess yourself, especially if you’ve felt unseen before. When you aren't used to being pursued, basic attention can feel like a rare prize, making it easy to hold onto tiny glimpses of "potential" or hesitate to "be mean."

That scarcity mindset is a trap. It lets low-effort people in without them ever earning your time. And when it ends, they just use the fact that they dated you to boost their own ego and make themselves seem more desirable to other people.

Know your worth (especially for younger women) and keep your standards high. I fell into this trap once, so you don't have to.
