I got scammed submitting a fake check to my bank (I am scared)
I was looking at babysitting jobs because I am a broke recent undergraduate student. I found a family to babysit for and they told me they needed help with a birthday party. They sent me a $500 check to buy the party materials. I uploaded the check and then received an email stating a hold was placed on recent deposit to account. After I told the family and they said to continue to buy the materials. Eventually, I started getting suspicious and said I will wait to buy until I get the deposit in my account.
Eventually, they stopped talking to me. I can't even find their Facebook anymore. But, I still have the messages saved.
I'm terrified of having to pay the check fee because I only have a 100 dollars. I genuinely thought It was real and felt happy about the babysitting opportunities. I reached out to Truist Bank who said we have to see if the check bounces or not.
What should I do because im scared of the fees. It was on me for not realizing.
