What range anxiety?
For the EV curious looking at the EX90’s range and wondering how it works. Daily driver- non issue. Here’s the first overnight trip:
BLUF: Range anxiety gone, plug and charge is awesome, using energy stops as food/shopping stops takes advantage of existing breaks & reduces the apparent wait time, energy costs were roughly equivalent between a theoretical 2026 XC90 B5 and 2026 EX90 Twin.
This was the first fast, no leisure time two day trip, in a new EX90. ~710mi total. Averaged 35.7 kWh/100 mi consumption.
Quick context for those wanting more info.
I didn’t capture arrival/departure levels and one charging session info. (Volvo app captures plug & charge cost, kWh, and time.)
Day 1:
Leg 1: ~180mi, arrived with more energy left than Google Maps initially forecasted. Tesla Supercharger, plug and charged worked seamlessly. 58.2 kWh in 39 min while eating, longer than Google suggested.
Leg 2: ~135mi, arrived at destination with plenty of reserve. Hit up Electrify America (CCS) while shopping, used tap to pay, EA wasn’t set for Volvo at the time of this trip. Charged to 100%
Day 2:
Leg 3: ~200mi. Hit the Tesla Supercharger next to a fast food restaurant, plug and charge worked seamlessly. Filled to 80%, knowing there’s a private level 2 charger at home. 61.2 kWh in 35min while eating.
Leg 4: ~175mi. Finished with ~12.5% battery on arrival. Took a while to charge back to 90%.
Total cost on the road: $112.11 plus $8.44 to end at 90% = $120.55
2026 XC90 B5 comp with average cost of gas between home and destination:
710mi/25mpg=28.4gal
28.4gal*$4.30/gal= $122.12
