ZMF HD8xx Pads
So, my cheap HD800 "sheepskin leather" pads (AHG) that I got from Amazon a few years ago decided to identify as French flake pastry and basically disintegrated into leather flakes. Whole thing looked like Peter Parker after he got thanos snapped. The OG pads are kinda hard to find and I never liked how awful the seal was. I decided to splurge a bit and get some ZMF suede pads instead.
Pros: The ZMF pads are lighter weight than the AHG pads. They're also easier to attach. They're also built better. The suede is more breathable and less sticky than leather.
Cons: The dust cover integrated into the pads are kinda too shallow. My ears rub up against them, but they're quite soft so it's not a huge annoyance. I'll probably remove them after a while. Maybe.
Sound: I don't think they affect the sound. Bit hard to compare with any previous pads since the OGs and the leather replacements both disintegrated. However, there's no obvious sound difference that I can detect.
Ultimately, for HD8xx pad replacements, there's only so many options available. OG, Amazon, Dekoni, and ZMF. If you can afford ZMF, get them. Dekoni's probably your other best bet, or the OG if you can manage to find a pair and you don't mind the seal (they're actually available at Bay Bloor Audio right now).
