Should I start my first play through now or wait a bit?
(I’m sorry in advance as this might be unnecessarily long because I do have a habit of rambling and putting in details that probably don’t need to be there but here we go)
I was just wondering whether I should start playing Fields of Mistria now, or if I should wait a few more weeks?
I know the full release came out almost a week ago now, but I’m still not sure if I should actually start playing it yet. I’ve been following this game for a few years now, but I flat out refused to play the early access because I have this thing where if I play the early access version of a game, I sometimes end up not playing the full release because I’ve already experienced it before. So I was actually pretty patient and waited all this time specifically for the full release.
Now that 1.0 is finally out, I obviously really want to play it, but I also know there are going to be quite a few updates over the next few weeks to fix issues and things that came up with the full release. That doesn’t bother me too much, but my main concern is actually MODS.
I really do want to play with mods, even though I haven’t actually played the game before. I’m mostly talking about cosmetic/furniture, dialogue mods and especially portrait mods. I have a bit of a habit of loving portrait mods in these types of games because I’m quite picky about art styles. I absolutely LOVE the Fields of Mistria art style, so it’s not like I dislike the original portraits or anything, but one of my favourite things about games like Stardew Valley was having all these different portrait mods and being able to find an art style that I personally liked.
Obviously Fields of Mistria is still quite new on Nexus Mods, so there aren’t that many portrait mods available yet. But I know people are constantly making new mods and updating existing ones, so I’m wondering if I should just wait a few more weeks and let the modding scene develop a bit more?
I think my biggest fear comes from what happened to me with Stardew Valley. I started a world first and then decided to add mods afterwards, and there were some mods I wanted to use that either didn’t work properly or couldn’t be added to my existing save. I ended up regretting not just setting everything up before I started the world in the first place.
So now I’m paranoid that I’m going to start Fields of Mistria, get really attached to my save, and then a few weeks later some AMAZING portrait mod comes out that I really want, but because I’ve already started my save, it either won’t work properly or I’ll have to start over to use it.
And then there’s also the fact that I know they’re going to be fixing and changing things after the 1.0 release. I’m kind of worried about dialogue specifically. What if they change or add dialogue options in the next few updates or I add mods for dialogue specifically, but I’ve already played through those scenes? I probably won’t replay the entire game after finishing this save because I’m usually a one-save kind of person, so I’m worried I’ll end up missing out on things that get added or changed later.
I KNOW I’m probably being paranoid about this but at the same time I don’t want to start playing now, put a bunch of hours into it, and then regret not waiting another few weeks for the game and mods to settle a little more. Also the problem of having to consistently update my mods when new patches come out.
So what would you guys do? Would you just start playing now and add mods as they come out, or would you wait a few weeks for more mods and updates to come out before starting your first save?
Especially people who play with a lot of mods, I’d really like to hear what you think!
