I Need Withholding Help!

Unsolved

The last time I completed a W-4 with my employer, I claimed M-6 for federal withholding (claimed 1 for me, 1 for spouse, 1 for each kid and 2 extra). I tried to adjust my withholdings to get a smaller tax refund and really messed up. Now the feds are taking 20% of my pay! I can't pay my bills with that much withheld and they no longer use numbers (M-6) to calculate withholding. Withholding percentage was 3.6% before I messed with it.

I am trying to update my withholdings online and am extremely confused what dollar amounts I need to put. The W-4 estimator on the IRS site is confusing and complicated to me.

  • Married Filing Jointly
  • Gross Income $84,000
  • Dependents - 2

Enter your claim dependent amount - This would by $4,400 for 2 kids, right?

Enter your deductions amount - Do I put the standard deduction for Married Filing Jointly ($32,200)?

Enter any additional monthly federal withholding - Do I need to put anything here?

I'm basically trying to get back to the equivalent of the M-6 I had before. Please help!
