Need advice on two job options
I work as a paraprofessional at a middle school, it’s a 2 minute walk from my apartment so I don’t have to use my car, I have health insurance, I get a 45 minute lunch, and I enjoy the environment and job. I don’t get raises though, so I’m stuck at the same wage, and I’m not really learning any new skills. I will add that I’m in college, in my second year, to become a high school social studies teacher, which is why I originally took the job as a para. I figured it would help me look qualified, and may teach me some things about being an educator. Over summer break I couldn’t find part time work, until now when school is starting again. A construction company wants to hire me as a framer. I have no construction experience, and don’t know how to frame, but it seems desirable so I can learn valuable skills through hands on experience. They offer pay raises, and a ladder to climb, as well as useful knowledge. Downsides are no insurance is offered, it’s a 25 minute commute, I have no experience, and I’ve never worked in a blue collar environment, so I don’t know what to expect. Starting out I’d be making the same as I do now. Both options have equal amounts of upsides and downsides, and so I’m wondering if there’s anyone out there who has a similar experience, or maybe a perspective to help me decide which would benefit me more?
