Feeling Left Behind

Discussion

Okay so I'm a senior in high school (17F) who has been dancing since 2 years old. However from 5 until I was 10 I danced for church so I never learned much technique. I only started pre-professional training at 11 years old and moved to the studio im at now at 12 years old. The way my studio works is that levels aren't based on age, but skill level. I've been consistently only taking 2 classes for 3 years because of marching band and I finally quit it this year.

Many of the girls I've been dancing with have all been advancing with being in company longer and I'm still at the same level I was in 8th grade aside from pointe work. I know that they put more work in than I do but I dont know how to rapidly improve this year. I struggle with turning, specifically triples and turns in second, as well as straddle leaps. Not to mention most of the girls are 13/14, so I just feel defeated in knowing that Im not at the level some girls my age are. I dont know how to get over this but I know I need to fix it before the dance year starts.

If you have any tips or advice that would be much appreciated!!
