Are we supposed to edit resume based on every job application to get hired?

How does hiring process work nowadays, I mean do they just use some ai platform to scan resume or job application and decide which candidate to select for an interview. Like are you supposed to edit resume based on the job application and use key words or something. Like it's insane people apply 100 jobs but still get no luck. This sounds stressful.
