Girlfriends bird is driving me up a wall, I can’t take the noise anymore.
My girlfriend and I have been living together for nearly two years, and about a year ago, she got a new pet bird and I was fully in support based on her experiences with a previous bird and knowing how much it meant to her.
I have actually grown to despise this thing. It squawks constantly, which outside of what I mention after this, I can tolerate and I’ve learned to tune out most of the time excluding doing dishes where every single sound causes this bird to screech for the entire duration.
My primary issue, I am a singer and guitarist, I have an entire studio in my house. It’s mostly for me, it’s a coping method that has helped with CPTSD, depression, and other fun things. I haven’t been able to record for nearly a year without constant screeches and screams of birdly annoyance in the background. I’m losing my mind, it’s making me lose one of the biggest sparks of joy in my life. It’s taking one of the most helpful things I’ve ever had for my mental health and turning it into something that only makes things worse.
She has outwardly expressed that this bird has not filled the gap left by her old bird who was apparently a quiet and loving creature. This bird has not bonded to her and before I actively tried to break the bond, it seemed to prefer me which is arguably worse and made her upset.
I can’t take it, so I guess I’m looking for advice in any capacity regarding this.
Know how to make a bird quieter? Great!
Know something about soundproofing a hollow door and studio room so a bird 30 feet away isn’t picking up in microphones? Cool!
Got an idea on talking to my girlfriend if all else fails and gently explaining to her that this bird is pushing me to slowly give up on one of my biggest passions in life? Sure!
I will literally accept any piece of advice that might help here, I am losing my mind, and even if nothing comes of this at least it’s cathartic.
