can anyone help me identify these german collar patches?

hi guys, i’m the comments i’ll be adding a photo of my great great grandfather, who was born in 1905 and lived in berlin, germany. i have this photo of him, and if i remember correctly my oma said he was in some form of military service, but i could be wrong. i was just trying to figure out what exactly this uniform he was wearing meant. tia :)
