I'll build and upload WHL of Python3.13 earlier today. However, I don't build

[https://huggingface.co/ussoewwin/Flash-Attention-2\_for\_Windows](https://huggingface.co/ussoewwin/Flash-Attention-2_for_Windows)

From now on, we do not plan to support Python 3.12.

However, as we have published a batch file for building on Windows, you should be able to build it using Python 3.12 if you use that file.

# 3.1 Triton path

[](https://github.com/ussoewwin/flash-attention/blob/main/md/2.9.2.post1_COMPLETE_TEST_AND_VALIDATION_GUIDE.md#31-triton-path)

`flash_attn_triton`: **not tested** (Triton module not installed in this venv). This matches the 2.9.0 guide's finding that Triton requires environment-specific setup on Windows.

# 3.2 CuTe/FA4 path

|:-|:-|
|dQ|2.10e-05|
|dK|1.86e-05|
|dV|1.47e-03|

**Meaning:** dQ and dK are extremely accurate (5 orders of magnitude below typical fp16 ULP). dV has slightly larger error (1.47e-03) because V gradients accumulate softmax-weighted values where small P errors compound. All gradients are finite and accurate. The fork is **safe for training**.

**Meaning:** The kernel is fully deterministic on sm\_120. No non-deterministic reductions or race conditions. The `volatile` removal (Delta 4) did not introduce non-determinism.

|Skip semantics|Use new max, approximate (0.7% error)|**FA4-style max lagging**: revert row\_max to old value, **exact**|

# 9.2 Why the threshold changed (8.0f)

[](https://github.com/ussoewwin/flash-attention/blob/main/md/2.9.2.post1_COMPLETE_TEST_AND_VALIDATION_GUIDE.md#92-why-the-threshold-changed-80f)

FA4 on B200 uses `rescale_threshold = 8.0 if q_dtype.width == 16 else 0.0`. This was validated at scale on the FA4 CI pipeline.

# 9.3 Why max lagging is required

[](https://github.com/ussoewwin/flash-attention/blob/main/md/2.9.2.post1_COMPLETE_TEST_AND_VALIDATION_GUIDE.md#93-why-max-lagging-is-required)

At threshold 0.01, skipping the rescale but keeping the new max introduces bounded error (0.7%). At threshold 8.0, the same approach would produce up to \~256x overweighting of stale block contributions. Delta 6 implements FA4-style max lagging: on skip, revert `row_max(mi)` to `scores_max_prev(mi)`, making the output and LSE **mathematically exact**.

# 9.4 Accuracy impact of max lagging

[](https://github.com/ussoewwin/flash-attention/blob/main/md/2.9.2.post1_COMPLETE_TEST_AND_VALIDATION_GUIDE.md#94-accuracy-impact-of-max-lagging)

The 18-case sweep (??4?5) plus 10 supplementary edge cases (??8) show zero accuracy regression. Worst fp16 rel\_Linf = 7.94e-04; worst bf16 rel\_Linf = 6.54e-03 (both well inside gates).

# 9.5 P-saturation safety

[](https://github.com/ussoewwin/flash-attention/blob/main/md/2.9.2.post1_COMPLETE_TEST_AND_VALIDATION_GUIDE.md#95-p-saturation-safety)

With max lagging, P can reach `exp2(8) = 256` before fp16/bf16 conversion. fp16 max = 65504; bf16 max = 3.39e38. No overflow risk.

# 10. A-2: Delta 4 Analysis + SASS Gate

[](https://github.com/ussoewwin/flash-attention/blob/main/md/2.9.2.post1_COMPLETE_TEST_AND_VALIDATION_GUIDE.md#10-a-2-delta-4-analysis--sass-gate)

# 10.1 What changed

[](https://github.com/ussoewwin/flash-attention/blob/main/md/2.9.2.post1_COMPLETE_TEST_AND_VALIDATION_GUIDE.md#101-what-changed)

In `utils.h`, `fma_f32x2`: `asm volatile(` ? `asm(`. The compiler is free to schedule the packed FMA.

# 10.2 A-2 accuracy

[](https://github.com/ussoewwin/flash-attention/blob/main/md/2.9.2.post1_COMPLETE_TEST_AND_VALIDATION_GUIDE.md#102-a-2-accuracy)

A-2's `fma_f32x2` path is active on sm\_100+. All 28 accuracy cases (18 sweep + 10 edge) exercise A-2 with zero failures.

# 10.3 SASS gate: sm_120 result

[](https://github.com/ussoewwin/flash-attention/blob/main/md/2.9.2.post1_COMPLETE_TEST_AND_VALIDATION_GUIDE.md#103-sass-gate-sm_120-result)

**All 96 sm\_120 cubins** checked for `FFMA.X2`:

* **FFMA.X2: NOT FOUND**
* Instead: `FFMA` (scalar) 5,760 occurrences, `FMUL.FTZ` 12,854 occurrences, `MUFU.EX2` 6,862 occurrences

**Interpretation:** On sm\_120 (Blackwell), `fma.rn.f32x2` PTX may be lowered to scalar FFMA pairs by `ptxas`. The `check_sass_gates.py` tool was designed for sm\_90 (Hopper) where `FFMA.X2` is the native encoding.

**Impact on correctness:** None. All accuracy tests pass. **Action:** SASS gate checker needs sm\_120-specific instruction pattern update.

# 10.4 Determinism confirmation

[](https://github.com/ussoewwin/flash-attention/blob/main/md/2.9.2.post1_COMPLETE_TEST_AND_VALIDATION_GUIDE.md#104-determinism-confirmation)

The determinism test (??8.2) confirms `bit-identical = True` across two runs. The `volatile` removal (Delta 4) did not introduce non-deterministic behavior.
