My problem with flashback episodes

Now don’t get me wrong I like flashback episodes when they’re done right but there’s one thing that I see so often in them that really bugs me:

I often see in flashback episodes that they’ll have characters meet each other who seemingly met for the first time later on in the show, for example a cop meeting a lawyer and then meeting them for the ‘first time’ in the present it makes no sense
