toughts on niche specialization for apprenticeship
I'm a fresh Architecture graduate, currently deciding between different paths for my apprenticeship. Recently nag-apply ako for apprenticeship at a relatively specialized organization that focuses on sustainable construction and an alternative building material. From what I've heard, the compensation is quite higher than the usual apprenticeship offers, and the work involves a lot of technical/design/construction-related learning.
I've also heard that the experience can be quite valuable because it's a relatively niche field. However, my long-term goal is to specialize in BIM, particularly Revit. Not sure yet if the organization uses Revit, but the public job description focuses on Autocad and Sketchup.
I'd like to know your thoughts:
- Would you consider a specialized apprenticeship like this a good foundation for an architecture career?
- If BIM is my long-term goal, should I prioritize getting into a Revit/BIM-focused company immediately instead?
intentionally leaving out the organization's name for privacy. tyia!
