Is the characteristic of being hopeful really inherently positive? If not, where is the limit and how does someone reject hope?

In my personal crossroads, I've come across the issue of the pain of being a hopeful person. I've done a little research on hope vs optimism, and have an understanding that hope is much harder to break when coming from the person themselves.

The thing is: one can be hopeful of the good in the world and repeatedly break their hearts, while still continuing to hope (in the sense that hope involves a desire, an active choice and actions, and the belief in the possibility itself. That is because even when things repeatedly go bad in any way, the multiplicity of factors can still mean that one specific detail didn't work, but will in the next time. This endless cycle causes constant pain related to failed expectations and still feeling like there's something you could do to make things a little bit better (in the sense that they wouldn't feel hopelessness).

It's become an interesting topic for me because I have a lot of difficulty giving up on something and always think there's hope, and that it's up to me to do something, to a point where seeing hope as positive is increasingly more difficult. I apologize if there are some english mistakes, as it's not my first language. Would love to have an interesting conversation on the topic!!
