Dog growling at me when I sit and lay down

I have a new client & it is a dog that is unfamiliar with me. I am now on day 5 and unfortunately each day has gotten worse with growling at me/barking. Just now is the breaking point, it was growling at me and barking while I was laying down and trying to sleep.

I don’t feel safe sleeping when it’s growing, barking, and looking like it’s ready to charge at me. It’s a small Labradoodle and I don’t think it would do me any harm but I still just don’t feel fully comfortable sleeping while it’s growling at me. It also does this when I’m sitting on the couch. When I stand up it immediately stops.

The thing is the owner told me to have him sleep in the room with me. Is it bad if I sleep for tonight with the door closed with him outside? Also any tips on how to handle a dog that doesn’t seem to like you in this way? I’ve tried a lot of different tricks with the treats and I also let him approach me instead of me approaching him. I feel like I’m at my wits end and also discouraged about it like something’s wrong with me for this dog not liking me.
