Where’s the sword for Rykard?

on a ng+2 run and got to Rykard without doing the Volcano Manor quest line for the first time ( which I didn’t know was possible ) . There’s a prompt where the weapon usually is but my tarnished doesn’t pick anything up . What am I supposed to do ?
