nanny using kratom

Advice Needed

hello!
my nanny has been with us for almost a year, my partner and i adore her, and more importantly, so does our toddler. we’ve had no issues with her.

earlier today i noticed her mixing a green powder into a mug of hot water. i thought it was matcha and made a comment about how i love matcha. she told me it was actually kratom, then told me a little bit of information about it. i later did some research.

it is legal in our state, but that is not the case everywhere. it seems like there isn’t much that is known about it, but that it’s related to the coffee plant and emulates opiates (or maybe is a different class of opiates that isn’t deadly? i’m a bit unclear on this)

she was very open about it and didn’t seem at all ashamed or evasive (she says she’s been using it for years, about two teaspoons a day, but won’t go near the synthetic or concentrates, although i don’t totally know what that means), so it’s obvious she doesn’t see it as anything worse than coffee. and i’m not sure if it is!

parents, what would you think about your nanny using this substance while caring for your kids? and nannies, would you feel comfortable using this while caretaking?

thank you!
