Planned visit to Kumamoto in September - reconsider?

I had a two week Japan trip booked for Aug-31 to Sep-13 for a while now, including 2-3 days in Kumamoto from Sep-08 through Sep-10. Given the recent earthquake (and hopefully the recovery efforts are continuing well...) I did want to ask the sub if you think it makes sense to reconsider.

Both in light of the ongoing recovery, don't want to be a burden, but also know that often for a tourism-heavy place having tourists continue to come is helpful.

Also, we had planned a day-trip to Kagoshima which given current JR issues is impossible (as a day trip). Any chance by Sep-09 the train service Southwards from Kumamoto is restored? Realize that this is impossible to predict....

Just wanted some general advice as was not wanting to just cancel our trip there and not a city I was really looking forward to.
