Unpopular opinion: YouTube needs a “quality” button
My product brain has a few questions for YouTube 😂
I’m a product person who’s currently taking frequent breaks from work because of family responsibilities. But apparently, I can take a break from work without taking a break from analysing products. 😄
Watching influencer content these days has me wondering — if we could redesign YouTube, what features would we add to improve the quality of content?
A few things I’d love:
- A proper downvote/quality flag — if a video gets an insane number of negative votes, maybe YouTube should actually look at it.
- “Community-preserved” comments — some genuinely good comments mysteriously disappear because the creator deletes them. Why can't highly valued comments remain visible with a “Removed by creator” label?
- Video labels from viewers — Useful, Informative, Rage-bait, Clickbait, Misleading, Low-effort, etc.
- And my favourite: separate “viral” from “good.” Something getting 2 million views because everyone is annoyed by it doesn't necessarily mean it's good content. 😂
What features would you add?
Basically, what would you change about YouTube if you were allowed to be brutally honest about influencer culture? 👀
