Marketing Push for Cash/Cash Asst.
Hey there! I just started working at Costco and I’m a part time cash assistant/cash. I saw conversation here about both members and employees being fed up with the membership metrics and marketing push (same). However, it seemed like the frustration was mostly with the membership desk employees so I have to ask…does no one else outside of membership have a supervisor up their ass about getting member upgrades? At my Costco they’re tracking and pushing cash and cash asst to be screaming out for membership in the middle of a transaction whenever we see someone without an exec membership. Meanwhile our store is MAJORITY exec members. I really enjoy customer service and have a lot of experience outside of Costco, so interrupting a real conversation with someone as they’re about to spend hundreds of dollars on groceries to ask them for MORE money is soul crushing and feels so disingenuous. We’ll be in the middle of a huge rush where everyone is upset about the waits and I’ll just be doing my best to keep spirits high (and succeeding mind you!), and then a supervisor will come up to ask me if I’ve been asking about upgrades or tell me I should be marketing during prescans too (which people some people already hate) 😭 I get scolded every single shift because we have to have a marketing sheet filled out and signed by a supervisor with at least 3 membership upgrades per hour worked per day and mine is always empty because I just can’t bring myself to do it. I’m really sad because I actually love Costco and enjoy interacting with my community even in this stupid way, but I keep getting so stressed out about the membership metrics. Sigh.
TLDR; any other costcos with cash/ cash asst pressured to meet membership metrics too?
