Using a carnality card with Nabhani is ending my game?

Baffled by this one.

Used a carnality card with Nabhani. Got the popup asking if I want to proceed, I selected yes and got the popup for “most popular man” event. Immediately afterwards, my character dies. Why?

And I went back and tried the end day again with removing the carnality card to confirm nothing else was triggering death. I’ve successfully triggered the most popular man event in previous runs so I’m stumped.
