The Planet Fitness Lunk Alarm Might Be a Relic Now (And I Worked There When It Wasn’t)
I worked at Planet Fitness for three years, from 2020 through 2023, and lately I’ve been realizing just how much some things have changed.
The funny one for me is the lunk alarm.
When I worked there, the lunk alarm was absolutely a real thing. It was loud, it was controlled by a switch behind the front desk, and yes—employees were the ones who set it off. I actually hated using it most of the time. I’d much rather just walk over and talk to someone than blast that thing through the entire gym.
What surprised me recently is hearing from people who have been working out at Planet Fitness for a few years saying they’ve never even heard the lunk alarm go off.
That honestly made me feel like I was talking about some ancient piece of Planet Fitness history. 😂
I also know Planet Fitness locations can be very different. They’re franchises, different groups own different clubs, and I’m sure things vary depending on the location, state, management, and even the time period you were there.
There are quite a few things I remember from my Planet Fitness days that seem different now. Policies have changed, technology has changed, the way memberships are handled has changed, and apparently the lunk alarm might be slowly becoming a bit of a relic too.
Those three years gave me a ridiculous number of stories, and a lot of the people I met there are actually part of the reason CoreniaBug eventually became a thing.
So now I’m curious:
If you work out at Planet Fitness now, when was the last time you actually heard the lunk alarm go off? Or have you never heard it at all?
