The traditional rural mindset left behind by the Chinese people

The contradiction between traditional values and personal values is actually highly relevant to society, and this contradiction is reflected in the rapid transformation of society. The social changes that took the West hundreds of years to complete have been accomplished in China in just a few decades. The establishment of the market economy in 1992 was no more than 43 years apart from the founding of the People's Republic of China. The rapidly changing society has led to the fragmentation of different values, which is reflected in the differences between traditional values and personal values. With the improvement of social productive forces and the perfection of the superstructure, more and more people have been influenced. The younger generation actively integrates into modern circles and pursues the realization of personal value. This is closely related to the atomization of society. In modern society, people's survival depends on the positions and mobility of social division of labor. Productive forces are not fixed but mobile. The establishment of the market economy This has led to the sacredness of the land being replaced by the instrumentality of the market. This is also a manifestation of population mobility. More and more people are beginning to work in cities and integrate into a society they have never met before. Industry and services are uprooted from the land, physically dismantling the old social concept of living in groups. From this, we can see the utilitarian transformation of society. It is the transformation from a society of acquaintances to a society of strangers that makes social interaction full of utilitarianism rather than emotion.

But why are traditional values still so strong? Because of the exponential changes in Chinese society, traditional values do not dissipate particularly quickly. In Fei Xiaotong's "Rural China", we can see the nature of the rural society, the hierarchical pattern, like water flowing in circles, trust is completely distinguished by human feelings and familiarity. However, the rapid transformation of modern society has given rise to something new, that is, the small urban countryside. When the concept of rural society had not yet dissipated, the concept of rural life began to emerge in cities. The concept of rural life started to be integrated into the rules of social contract, and people began to "see who I know" and who had family ties with me. We often heard our parents say that when doing things, one should consider the ways of the world. In fact, it is a manifestation of the integration of rural concepts into modern society. Rural concepts have not completely dissipated but have gradually merged into modern society. More often than not, in the workplace, when it comes to school enrollment, medical treatment, and work, it is all about personal connections. Especially in organizations and the workplace, this is also the reason why some corruption or dark secrets are hidden. Essentially, physics has left the rural society, but rural culture still exists. This is due to the reasons left over from certain social transformations. More specifically, it is manifested in the fact that no matter when, one must return to their hometown during the Spring Festival, always state their native place in self-introductions, or more often, in cities, one must hold wedding customs similar to those in their hometown, and so on. More importantly, in terms of family. In fact, the invisible concept of the countryside is more prominently reflected within the family. In our daily lives, we are manipulated by our parents. In fact, it's not that they do it themselves, but rather a kind of family-style coercion. More prominently, it is reflected in the aspect of fertility. In our interactions with parents, we often hear them urging us to get married and have children. This is because the family responsibility is infinitely defined. In the concept of rural areas, the family is an important unit that maintains the clan. More operations actually stem from the strategic development of the clan, such as "six wallets" buying a house. Then am I saying that the ways of the world and human relations are things that one has to learn and must learn? Wrong. In the previous text, I have already mentioned that the so-called human relations and social skills are merely a development of the urban and rural areas. The human relations and social skills they talk about are merely manifestations of the hierarchical pattern. It's not that society has always been like this, but rather that these so-called human relations and social skills, like capillaries, have been connected to society, forcing us to act this way. The human relations and social skills they talk about can completely disappear. Instead, it is necessary to establish a genuine sense of human relations and social customs, rather than a patriarchal or family-based one. This drawback lies in the fact that it will erode the rule of law through the rule of propriety and virtue, which may lead to the emergence of social inequality.

To put it bluntly, the small urban countryside is essentially a remnant of feudal concepts and the logic of the operation of the bourgeoisie. The so-called gratitude education in the small rural areas of the city is actually the suppression of children's sense of freedom by the patriarchal and family-style approach. The feudal rural concept is essentially a group-oriented approach that suppresses the individual-oriented approach. This concept will blur the property rights of the family and the rights of the individual. This essentially reflects the feudal clan's concept of "cohabitation and shared wealth". We can also see the fact that the feudal concept of people's control over others This is closely related to the concept of urban and rural areas. Serfs were dependent on their masters, while their wives and children were dependent on their elders. As I mentioned above, this kind of rural concept in modern society is the erosion of the rule of law by the rule of rites. From the perspective of historical process, this is a backward and regressive ideology, attempting to bring society back to that kind of family-style feudal rural concept. However, the rapid changes in society have inevitably led to the resurgence of these new Confucian and new feudal ideas.

Why do feudal rural concepts still exist? It is because to maintain the stable reproduction of capitalist labor, capitalism and its new rural concepts are in harmony. Feudal ethics and morality help cultivate the discipline of capitalist production, transform the family into a consumption unit and a production unit, and advocate the so-called concept of striving for the family.

Marx pointed out that it is necessary to replace its necessity with a more superior sociality. By building a strong social support system and a rich public life, everyone can freely choose their intimate relationships instead of being forced to rely
