My ex (dating someone else) is reaching out to ask about my therapy. Confused
My ex and I broke up technically last summer, but we lived together until about 8 months ago, and the real emotional ending was about 6 months ago when she told me she wanted to explore other options. She started dating basically the first person she matched on an app with and they’ve been together about 5 months now. In the first month of them seeing each other she told me they had little chemistry, and she felt numb and avoidant, but ‘content’. It was messy, she told me not to tell the new guy we had been talking, then she tried to cut me off but then the next 3 weeks she kept calling me and I ignored because I was hurt and trying no contact.
I haven’t initiated reaching out to her at all in the past 4 months. I’ve mostly ignored her attempts to contact me too, except a short instances.
Over the past 4 months she’s periodically called, texted, or viewed my Instagram story (we dont follow each other). Recently, in July was her most exposed reach. She repeatedly called over the span of a couple days and i finally accepted to talk because she texted and asked to talk about therapy. She asked whether i think therapy works, and if therapy has been working for me, because she’s thinking about going back herself. She already did about 6 months of therapy last year, so it seems strange she would now ask me for advice about if therapy works.
On the call, at first she accused me of hurting her emotionally and lying and not handling conflict in the relationship well, but when I started pushing back and almost hung up, she admitted that she’s been feeling very broken, depressed, and anxious, and mentioned something “traumatic” happened recently, but didn’t say what and I didn’t ask. She said the call with me was the first time she could talk about how she’s feeling without breaking down. She told me respects that I have been healing. I let her do most of the talking, i didn’t ask questions or tell her about anything other why I think therapy works, and she didn’t want the call to end. Overall, she seemed to be doing worse than she was doing in February and she moved from her avoidant, zombie-like description of herself to anxious and broken.
She even got weird on the call and accused me of having a girl in the background laughing at her. She also brought up how I’ve been ignoring her texts and calls and called it immature to not reply and I had to explain that I’ve been doing no contact and it didn’t seem to register to her.
I get that people sometimes stay loosely in touch with exes. But this feels different to me because she’s 5 months into a relationship, has already done therapy once, and is still reaching out to ask me about mine, not a therapist, google, friends, or her partner. Why do you think she is still reaching towards me? The longest period of no contact has been 41 days in over 5 months of her dating someone else.
