Booking award flights for 2 people

I hope someone can help me understand the best way to book a flight using Avios for myself and my mum. We live in Australia and are able to transfer points from Amex. Neither of us have existing Qatar Privilege accounts, so I've just set those up this week.

When I go to look for flight availability for 2 people I get an error about not having anyone in my Friends and Family list. When I try to add Mum to my list I get an error about needing to complete a qualifying activity. I am unlikely to take a flight between now and December, and don't want to have to wait that long to make my award booking.

Is there an easy way to book 2 seats using Avios? Will the call centre do it for me?

I suspect I could transfer points to Mum's account and we could each book the flight, but I'd be really annoyed if we were able to book 1 seat and the 2nd missed out. We could sit side-by-side at our laptops and click "go" simultaneously. Any better ideas?
