Husband won’t stop being passive aggressive after I made a joke that he didn’t like. AIO?
My (25f) husband (29m) has a hobby of collecting diecast cars. Over the past 2 weeks, he has doubled down on this hobby and bought over 50 cars and our apartment is filled with boxes because of it.
Let me preface this by saying that he’s an incredible person and he’s very kind to me. We have our disagreements sometimes but nothing serious. I also find all of his hobbies to be very endearing parts of him.
Anyway, after seeing all the boxes yesterday, I made an off handed awful joke. I said, “That’s the tism talking.” And I immediately felt horrible because 1) I wanted to say ADHD instead of that, and he does have a lot of ADHD characteristics and he also agrees, and 2) it was just a bad joke.
He got very upset and I apologized profusely and explained that I did not mean it. He gave me the silent treatment the rest of the day and came home really late from work today. During dinnertime, he was watching live videos of people bidding on hotwheels cars and at one point I commented on the amount someone spent; he showed me a car he spent a high amount on in response. Then I guess he remembered that he was mad at me and said, “Why are you sitting here watching autistic shit?”
So I left him alone for sometime and brought him his dinner which he refused to eat. At this point I got a little annoyed so I picked up his plate and put it in the fridge. I am sure that he is hungry and would have eaten if I left the plate there. I am in bed now and am feeling very guilty about making him feel bad yesterday, and for taking the food away today. I know that he can take it out and eat if he wants to but did i overreact by getting mad at him for being passive aggressive?
