What is something in a horror show that made you go. How did that get pass the networks?

I admit. Are You Afraid of The Dark was not something I remember watching at all but I do know its most famous monster. The Red pool ghost. And any time I see its design i really wonder how that got passed anyone? Because its really gnarly for the time and feels like you'd see it from a low budget slasher film
