PGT- probe building with Luminary via SGF
Hi ladies,
My husband is affected by a recessive syndrome, and we recently found out that I am also a carrier for the same recessive gene. We started our fertility journey in September 2025, and unfortunately, we have been stuck in the genetic-testing process for most of this year.I also have advanced stage 4 endometriosis and some adenomyosis, so I’m already dealing with additional fertility challenges. I’m turning 42 next month, which is another major concern for us when it comes to time and embryo quality.
We were able to have my husband’s parents tested, and their results showed a trans mutation (each parent passed one copy of the gene to him). When I sent all of the results to Luminary, since my insurance is no longer working with Natera, they gave us two options for the PGTM probe building:
- Test everyone: myself, my husband, both of his parents, and both of my parents; or
- Test just my husband and me and bank 6 embryos in order to obtain conclusive results.
I’m really worried about option #2 because of my age and my existing fertility challenges. With the possibility of having embryos affected by the genetic mutation, along with the increased risk of chromosomal abnormalities due to maternal age, I’m concerned that trying to bank six embryos could stretch our journey out even longer and significantly reduce our chances.
For those of you who have gone through something similar with Luminary: if your parents were not in the same geographical location, did Luminary allow you to hand-carry the swab kits to them? How long were the kits good for, and were you able to send the completed samples back yourself? Has anyone faced a similar situation where family members needed to be tested from different locations? If so, how did you handle it? I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially with Luminary, genetic testing, or PGT for a recessive condition. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post!
