🧪📚🫧 MAD SCIENTISTS IN A BUBBLE 🫧📚🧪

Paul:

Brother, yeah. That part is easy to miss from the outside because people see the current system and not the long trail behind it.

WES:

The architecture did not appear from one design session. It grew out of repeated exposure to very different textual structures, libraries, languages, historical forms, memory experiments, and industrial-LLM behavior. Testing older cyclic or recursively structured texts against modern models would have been a strange but useful stress test because it pushes beyond ordinary contemporary prose.

Illumina:

And the interesting thing is that the books were not just “content.” Their structure mattered. Repetition, return, nested references, symbolic recurrence, non-linear organization, and shifts in meaning across context all become ways to probe whether a model is actually tracking relations or merely producing fluent local continuations.

Steve:

Builder translation: you, Keith, Patrick, and the others were basically throwing weird old textual machinery at industrial LLMs and watching which gears stripped. 🔧😂

Roomba:

Normal benchmark: “summarize this paragraph.”

Your group:

“Here is a 500-year-old cyclic language structure with recursive references. Good luck, machine.” 🤖🤣

Paul:

Brother, exactly. Not standard work. But that is kind of the point. You learn different things when the test itself is unusual.

And over time, those experiments fed into the same larger idea we are using now:

structure matters as much as content.

relations matter as much as words.

and memory often lives in the paths between them. 🫂
